Q: Why my media file can not be stored in the HDD of HDSTAR?
A: Make sure your HDD use NTFS or FAT32 format. But FAT32 format will have the limitation of mass disk being 32GB and max file size being 4GB. If your HD files’s size is lager over 4GB, please use NTFS format.

Q: I can not see anything on my TV screen, but the media player is connected and turned on.
A: If the device is connected correctly and turned on but there is no output, we recommend first removing the power supply and reconnecting it. If after 1minutes there is still no signal, press the TV system button on the remote control to change the video output until you see the main screen.

Q: When I connect one external USB Hard Disk to HDSTAR, but I can not play any movie files in it.
A: The external USB Hard Disk must use NTFS or FAT32 format, and self-powered USB drives are commended. If USB bus power does not drive the device, pls use additional power adapter.

Q: Can I watch a video and record at the same time?
A: Yes, this is possible although for optimal performance, it is recommend only doing one at the time.

Q: Why my some movie can not be displayed??
A: Please confirm the resolution of the movie. Too high resolution to be supported. Such as RM/RMVB format up to 720 x 576; HD movie up to 720P(1280 x 720), MKV format up to 720 x 576.

Q: How do I share a folder on the local network?
A: Use a network attached storage drive(NAS) that comes with a SMB server, allowing you to create folders and share the files or use a Windows computer, right click on a folder, select properties, go to the Sharing tab and enable the function called “share this folder on the network”. Make sure your firewall is set to allow the sharing of folders and that both devices are on the same local network.

Q: Some of the funtions and menus are not available!
A: Many of the functions require a hard drive to be installed. Make sure you have at lest one HDD installed and that it is formatted using EXT2 or EXT3.

Q: I lost my password, what do I do?
A: Press the reset button and hold it for 5 seconds to reset the device to its default settings. The default login is admin/admin. Be aware that resetting the device will erase all user and group accounts plus some other settings.

Q: What port is the BitTorrent client on the Taurus LAN using:
A: The BitTorrent client is using the TCP protocol and the ports 6881-6889.

Q: What file system should I choose to format my drive?
A:This will depend on how you want to use the drive but in general, we recommend:
·Windows2000/XP/Vista----NTFS
·Mac OS---HFS+(Mac OS Extended)
·To use it on both PC and Mac—FAT32(single files size is limited to 4GB)

Q: How many drives can fail before I loose my data?
A: This depends on the Raid mode. For Raid 0 and Spanning, any drive failure will result in the data being lost. For Raid1, Raid5 and Raid10, more than one drive failure at the same time will mean the data can not be recovered anymore.

Q: Why does the LED indication for some of the drives light up red?
A: If one of the HDD LEDS lights up red and at the same time the Rebuild LED lights up orange, the drive is defective. If less than 4 drives are installed and the Rebuild LED does not light up at the same time, it simply indicates that there is no drive in that bay.
